About
The Sedes Sapientiae Symposium was founded in 2023 by Michaël Bauwens at the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Fides et Ratio, heeding the call to philosophers in its final paragraph (§108) to take the Sedes Sapientiae as the model of philosophy. The motto of the Symposium is “philosophari debemus in Maria”, taken from the 12th century Benedictine monk Odon of Canterbury. The aim was to organise a yearly symposium on a topic related to Mary and philosophy.
But what started out as a yearly gathering has now developed into a more permanent institution. By the end of 2025, the Institutum Sedes Sapientiae will be launched to give a more enduring embodiment to this project, adding much more research initiatives to the yearly Symposia.
